I am so sorry for neglecting the blog couple of days. The Alaska trip came in the right moment – just to load us with some energy for the (so to called) the best experience of one’s lives – buying a house.
Every body says that buying a house should be the greatest experience in your life. Well it is the biggest investment that is for sure (Erik and I are now officially leading an American Dream – we have a house and a big debt to pay back).
But nobody tells you about all possible pitfalls of the process. Even going with the real estate process doesn’t guarantee the smooth transaction and the best deal you get.
It seem like everybody wants to rip you off. Starting from the agent, then seller and ending with the bank that lends the money… and how not to be stressed about the whole story.
We will never forget sending faxes from the gas station near Denali National Park and looking for Internet cafe to check our inspection report vie email before boarding the Day Cruise Ship in Seward. Everything, just to make sure that we are filing all the required documents needed to be in the right spot in the right moment (midnight of July 1st). If we only knew that the other side – the seller agent, would have turned out to be a total jerk lacking manners and professionalism. Don’t ever go for a house represented by Albert Antony Real Estate. Through the entire process he was not communicating things properly, not returning phone calls for day and on the day of our walk he in presence of Erik stared to yell at our agent and was threatening us that he would break the deal. All that because we asked him to fix few things, before we move in into that “forgotten” old house. I was not there but Erik and Marcia (our agent) went through a lot while dealing with him.
Having no other plan (except leaving in the hotel for couple months while looking for another house) we decided to proceed with the purchase. Despite the fact the there were many neglected parts of the house – it had real potential. The main advantage was the location – close to work and in the middle of everything and the beautiful view of the city from the back yard. I already had the new patio door and extension of the deck drafted in my head. After hours of intensive thinking and pulling hair out, Erik and I decided to go for it.
